The Passing Game
The Passing Game
A portrait of legendary coach Fletcher Arritt and a meditation on leadership, mentorship, and the true meaning of success through sport.
Fletcher Arritt spent over four decades coaching basketball at Fork Union Military Academy, transforming a small gym into a proving ground for young men on the cusp of college careers. In a system without leagues, championships, or traditional measures of success, Arritt built his program around repetition, discipline, and selflessness—sending hundreds of players to the next level while quietly redefining what it means to coach. Captured over 13 years by a former player, The Passing Game is both an intimate portrait and a broader meditation on leadership, mentorship, and the purpose of sport. Through verité footage, archival material, and reflections from some of the game’s most respected figures, the film explores how Arritt’s philosophy shaped lives far beyond the court, and why his approach feels more relevant than ever.
