Where Soul Lives On: Capricorn Studios
A short film documentary in partnership with Mercer University about the history of Capricorn Studios and its musical impact in Macon, Georgia.
Our documentary, narrated from the perspective of the legendary studio itself, chronicles the rich music history. From the artists in its beginnings in 1968 to the bands of Capricorn Records and the explosive rise of Southern rock. It captures the studio's fall, years of uncertainty, and its surprising revival and connection to Hip-hop: still a home for musicians in the 1980’s and 1990’s, and the community's passionate efforts to save it from foreclosure and the devastation of Macon's largest downtown fire.
Today, restored by Mercer University, Capricorn thrives as a creative hub for a new generation of musicians. Featuring exclusive interviews with members of bands like The Rolling Stones, The Allman Brothers Band, Charlie Daniels Band, The Marshall Tucker Band, Dixie Dreggs, Mountain, Jupiter Coyote, Outlaws, and more. This film celebrates the enduring spirit of a studio that helped shape American music history.
