Dishing Up The South is a documentary television series that uses food as a doorway into the people, places, history and traditions of the American South. Each episode begins with a distinctive Southern dish and follows three chefs as they explore the story behind it, tracing its ingredients, origins and cultural significance through the communities that have kept it alive. Along the way, they meet farmers, fishermen, historians, chefs, artisans and local residents whose lives reveal a larger story about the place itself. The journey ultimately returns to Bluffton, South Carolina, where the chefs bring what they have learned back to the Culinary Institute of the South and reinterpret the dish alongside culinary students. Through food, Dishing Up The South creates a portrait of a region shaped by history, tradition, change and the people who continue to define what it means to be Southern.
